HEALTH NEWS: Resident Doctors on strike resume work to aid Survivors of the air crash...

Resident doctors suspend strike to help patients SURVIVORS and victims of the air crash have been taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) critical care unit even as the local Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) has suspended its two-day old nationwide strike to attend to patients.

Reliable sources at the Lagos State Ministry of Health (LSMH) confirmed to The Guardian yesterday that the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, the Permanent Secretary, Prof. Femi Olugbile, and other medical directors were on ground in LASUTH to ensure optimal care.

Also, resident doctors in LASUTH were on ground yesterday to help. President, LASUTH ARD, Dr. Jimi Sodipo, told The Guardian: "You know there is industrial action. But we have been coming to the hospital. When we heard about the crash we mobilized and we are going to be here to make sure that no life is lost. We are going to have a meeting to review the situation. I have been speaking with our national president and we are unanimous that we are here to save lives.

"We have not called off the strike, but we are attending to emergency cases. Most of the victims of the crash are here and we are going to stay and help as long as it takes. The Commissioner for Health and his team were also here."

Meanwhile, a team of specialists and medical staff at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) are 'battle' ready waiting to offer their services if needed.

Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Prof. Akin Osibogun, told The Guardian: "I sent somebody to go down there. I can confirm to you, the survivors are in LASUTH. They have qualified personnel there. But if there is need we will come in. But we won't go there and remove a patient from the bed."

President, ARD LUTH chapter told The Guardian that his members are on ground to make sure that their services are available when needed.
