According to HealthNewsNG.com, Nigeria's president, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has conferred on Bill Gates, Co-Chairman of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Commander of the Federal Republic national award. Gates is recognised for his efforts in Nigeria's fight against polio.

President Jonathan announced this at a forum on the Presidential effort to eradicate polio put together by the Federal Ministry of Health, held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa Abuja. He added that, Gates has also supported Nigeria's Agricultural Sector...

"As the President and Commander in Chief I hereby confer on Bill Gates, one of our prestigious titles, the Commander of the Federal Republic, he said.

"The goal of saving lives is a very realistic goal. Through these efforts I do think that children who do survive will be far healthier and able to take advantage of their education and contribute to the success of Nigeria," Gates said.
