Ondo state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has won the most kidney friendly governor.
The award was conferred on him during the 26th Annual General and Scientific Conference of the Nigerian Association of Nephrology in Akure.
Receiving the award, Mimiko commended the association for the choice of the state and the theme for the conference: "Reducing the Burden of Acute Kidney Injury in Nigeria", stressing that awareness and prompt access to affordable healthcare services was critical to reducing the heavy burden of kidney diseases.
He said, his administration had put in place a befitting world-class kidney care centre, equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities at the medical village in Ondo to eradicate the menace of chronic kidney diseases, adding that over 300 patients had been screened so far in the facilities.
According to him, his administration had made giant strides in other health initiatives, which include mother and child hospital, a modern cold chain store, trauma and surgical centre, emergency medical services with state-of the-art ambulances, among others, which he said had received accolades both locally and internationally.
The governor also assured that the award presented to him by the association would serve as a motivating factor to invest more in kidney care.
